ICONIC

Buffett Bows Out β€” Beyond the Billions.

Remember the billionaires?
At 94, Warren Buffett, the β€˜Oracle of Omaha,’ who has been richer longer than most of us have been alive, finally hung up his calculator (or abacus?)
While Bezos becomes a Bond villain and Musk builds his own kingdom, Warren Buffett β€” worth $158 billion β€” still lives in the same modest Omaha house he bought in 1958 for $31,500.

The world's wealthiest Scrooge or financial Yoda?
You be the judge.

πŸ’° Buffett Bytes

πŸ‘ΆπŸ» Early Start

  • Childhood Hustler: Bought his first stock at 11 years old. Filed his first tax return at 13, deducting his bicycle as a paper route expense. (IRS agents still talk about this in therapy)

  • Harvard Reject: Got turned down by Harvard Business School, so went to Columbia instead. (Harvard's $158 billion mistake)

πŸ₯€ Lifestyle

  • Junk Food: Drinks FIVE cans of Coke and eats McDonald's for breakfast every day. And is 94!! (Does he have human arteries?)

  • Brutal Dad: Refused to lend his daughter money for a new kitchen, telling her to β€œgo to the bank, like everyone else”. (Family dinner β€” awkward!)

  • I Do: He paid $100 for a Dale Carnegie public speaking course to overcome his fear of public speaking, which helped him propose to his first wife (married for 52 years β€” even his marriage had a great R.O.I.)

  • Tech-Phobic: No computer on his desk, sent ONE email in his life, and uses a flip phone. (Gen Z would literally explode)

πŸ“ˆ Success

  • Returns! $1 invested with him when he took over Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 would be worth a staggering $35,231 today, all with no Bitcoin! (Makes my portfolio weep tears of bitter shame)

  • Late Bloomer: 99% of his wealth came AFTER age 50. (There is hope yet!)

  • Modest: Paid himself only $100,000 a year and has promised to give away 99% of his fortune. (Where can we apply?)

πŸ’‘ PRO TIP: When discussing Buffett, mention his reading habit β€” he spends 80% of his day reading, saying knowledge builds like compound interest.
(Unlike scrolling Insta)

πŸ’¬ FOLLOW-UP: β€œIf you had billions like Buffett, would you buy your daughter a kitchen?” The answer reveals more about someone than their investment strategy.

⛔️ DON’T SAY: β€œNo crypto? Typical boomer” (He’s the greatest investor ever! Check out the charts)

FAMOUS WORDS

β€œBe fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.”
(Warren Buffett, this guyπŸ‘†πŸ»)

Giphy

Can you name the film?

πŸ’° A classic '80s comedy about manipulating the stock market.

⬇️ Answer at the end of this issue

WORD WISE

πŸ€‘ Money Stay or Money Go?

Know anyone who hates spending money?
How about someone who can’t spend it fast enough? (My eldest daughter…)
Here's your financial personality cheat sheet:

πŸ”’ Tight with Money

  • πŸ‘πŸ» Frugal: Economical; careful with money.
β€œBuffett is famously frugal, living in the same house for decades despite his billions.”

  • πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Tight-fisted: Unwilling to spend money (negative).
β€œHe's so tight-fisted, he probably squeaks when he walks.”

  • πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cheapskate: Someone very reluctant to spend money.
β€œWhat a cheapskate! He separates two-ply toilet paper to make it last longer.”

πŸ’Έ Not Tight with Money

  • πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Spendthrift: Someone who spends money wastefully (Did I mention my daughter…)
β€œHer spendthrift habits left her broke despite inheriting millions.”

  • πŸ‘ŽπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» Big spender: Someone who spends a lot.
β€œHe's such a big spenderβ€”chartered a private jet just for a dinner date.”

  • πŸ‘πŸ» Philanthropic: Generous in donating money to good causes.
β€œDespite his frugal lifestyle, Buffett is incredibly philanthropic, pledging to give away 99% of his fortune.”

πŸ’‘ PRO TIP: Context matters! Calling someone β€œeconomical” sounds respectful; calling them β€œcheap” at a dinner they're hosting will ensure you're never invited back.

πŸ’¬ FOLLOW-UP: β€œWould you rather be known as frugal or generous?” Watch closelyβ€”their answer reveals volumes about their relationship with money and status.

β›” DON'T SAY: β€œHow much?! I only drank water” (Sorry, but nobody likes that guy.)

THE CULTURE CODE

😎 The Met Gala β€” Fashion’s Annual Fever Dream

What is it? Every first Monday in May, the ultra-wealthy and ultra-famous gather to wear things no human would ever wear in real life.
This year's Met Gala just wrapped, with the theme β€œSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating Black dandyism and its influence on fashion history.

So…this:

@voguemagazine

#Andre3000 writes his own rules, including this new one: wear a piano to the #MetGala. See every look from the night at the link in bio.

You can see all the costumes here.
Highlights (or lowlights, depending on your opinion) include:

Pharrell Williams, rocking a pearl-encrusted Louis Vuitton blazer that took 400 hours to make, inspired by what he called β€œthe Black men of the working class.”
(Nothing says β€œworking class” like 15,000 pearls…)

πŸ’Έ The Price Tag

Individual tickets cost $75,000, with tables starting at $350,000.
This year's event broke records, raising over $31 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute β€” proving rich people will pay anything to wear uncomfortable clothes for Instagram.
No Warren Buffett here, then.

🎯 Why It Matters

This was the first Met exhibition exclusively focused on Black designers and how clothing has been used as both resistance and expression throughout Black history.

πŸ’‘ PRO-TIP: This event generates enough media buzz to keep the luxury industry running for a year. It’s a thing. So, even if fashion is not your thing, you can at least ask about that piano.

πŸ’¬ FOLLOW-UP: Ask β€œExclusive, expensive and elitist, or an important part of culture?” Shows deeper thinking about the event.

β›” DON'T SAY: β€œWhy would anyone wear THAT?” (Fashion isn't meant to be practicalβ€”it's art, social commentary, and tax-deductible costume party all rolled into one.)

BECAUSE THE ROBOTS ARE COMING

Growing up, it was β€œGood manners don’t cost anything” every time I forgot a β€œplease” or β€œthank you.”
But with our A.I. overlords…sorry…agents, that isn’t the case at all.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (ChatGPT), says these polite requests, while asking AI what that suspicious lump on your foot means, are costing β€œtens of millions of dollars” in processing power β€” about 10 times more electricity than a standard Google search. But it’s still worth it, as β€œyou never know.” (Does he know?!)

The big question β€” Is it worth it?

If they react like this, then maybe.

πŸ’‘ PRO TIP: Add β€œplease” and β€œthank you” to your AI requests. Consider it apocalypse insurance.

πŸ’¬ FOLLOW-UP: β€œDo you think we should treat AI with human-like respect, or is it wasteful?” Watch closelyβ€”their answer reveals if they'll be welcomed or terminated by our future robot rulers.

β›” DON'T SAY: β€œIt's just code, you idiot.” (The microphones in your devices are always listening, and algorithms never forget…)

TALKING POINT

😑 Are We Getting Ruder?

If a lack of politeness could spell doom for humanity, then this won’t help β€” research shows that almost half (47%) of Americans believe people have gotten ruder since Covid-19.

What do you think?

DID YOU SEE…?
Lunch break or Happy Hour - Stories that stick
  • πŸ¦– Dino Bag: Would you carry a bag made out of T-Rex leather? (Jurassic Purse!)

  • 🌎 Eye Spy: Is there an extra planet hiding in our solar system? (Sorry, Pluto, still not you.)

  • πŸ‘΅πŸ» No Age Rage: The world’s oldest woman (115) reveals her secret. (No, not wine.)

πŸ’‘PRO-TIP: Fashion, science, age β€” keep conversations interesting by switching topics. Wait for a silence before introducing a new topic.

ANSWER

🎬 The Movie: Trading Places (1987)

Wealthy brothers, Mortimer and Randolph Duke, make a $1 bet over what determines success, using unsuspecting subjects Dan Aykroyd (privileged commodities broker) and Eddie Murphy (street-smart hustler) as their guinea pigs.

🍿 Cultural Impact

  • Satirical masterpiece on class, race, and Wall Street greed in the Reagan era.

  • Features Jamie Lee Curtis's iconic β€œFlash for Cash” scene that's been living rent-free in Gen X male brains for 40+ years.

🧠 Deep Dive: The climactic orange juice trading scene inspired the β€œEddie Murphy Rule” in the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act, which prohibits using stolen government information to trade in commodity futures β€” literally changing financial law.

B) πŸ€” Maybe... but probably only microbes and they're terrible at texting back (17%)
C) πŸ™„ Nope. If aliens were real, they'd have invaded by now (0%)
D) πŸ‘½ They're already here, studying us like ants (but with more probing) (17%)

πŸ’¬ Your Two Cents:

S.Y: β€œImagine if we were the only planet with life of any sort in the whole universe. What a terrible, awful, stupid, ignorant mess we would be making of this incredible planet.”
